So, Global Game Jam. Went pretty much as expected; didn’t sleep much, almost made a game, went a little crazy, you know, the usual.
Since the theme was heartbeat and we didn’t want to do the inside of a body, we made a game about repairing the “veins” for a giant heart-tree thing in a forest. I ended up being the only artist on the team, which seemed fine in the beginning, but kind of killed our chances of finishing the game in the end.
Anyway, here’s some stuff!
Our fancy logo
The heart-tree-thing was pretty fun to model. Leaf texture definitely needs work… actually the whole thing does. Eventually the heart bit will be a bit more red looking to stand out.
Our fancy hero
And here’s the protagonist, Murmur. 615 polys for him and the staff. That’s a bit higher than I normally go, but then I wanted him to be able to animate without freaking out like the rest of my low poly dudes. Definitely adding more detail in the texture later, the whole chest/waist area is rather vague.
All is not lost, though! The rest of the team and I are going to keep working on the game until we get it done. Hooray!
And just for fun, here’s an animation I grabbed for him from Mixamo that never made it into the game.
Here’s the tentative layout of the bowling alley. Still missing most doors and some seating, but otherwise should be okay.
The squares by the booths are supposed to be pool tables, for the record. I might post a few more concepts, but most likely I’ll be jumping right into the modeling shortly. Hooray!
And here’s some more Tron stuff!
Right now I’m torn on whether to use the ball with crazy tech lines or the wheeldiscthing. My main issue with the latter is that I’m not sure exactly where/how one would roll it, or even where you’d fit your hand around it. On the other hand, it looks much more sleek and it would be easier to render a light rail behind it, given that it isn’t completely round. I dunno.z
My biggest issue right now is deciding on a layout for the building. I’ve always liked architecture and I studied it a bit in high school, but it’s much harder to design a business than a house. Also, considering it’s for Tron, I’m not sure if I should include considerations like bathrooms. Definitely gonna have a counter to rent those horrible shoes though, it wouldn’t be a bowling alley without those. Floor plan should be up later today.
So I sort of forgot to post those concepts two weeks ago like I said. Here’s the look of the actual lanes:
It doesn’t look like much now, but I’m also not trying to over-design anything. I’ll probably tone down the arrows in the final version. More concepts to follow.
Here’s a logo I made for our team in Team Project.
Sometimes I feel like I should be in graphic design instead, haha. I just really like making logos in Flash for some reason. This one was tricky though, I went through a lot of iterations (mostly changing button colors) before it was good enough. Still not sure about the depth on the D-pad compared to the lack thereof on the buttons, but it should work just fine for now. :P
Since I need more art around here, have a WIP! I made this sword in Flash a few months back just for fun.
I wanted to see if I could get it looking good in 3D (since I don’t have much experience with 3D weapons). My first attempt was awful, it was basically just the vector art used as the texture as it was..So, after getting some feedback and a few revisions to the design, this is where I’m at right now:
I still have to finish the scratches on the left side of the blade, but other than that I think it’s pretty much done. I’m trying to stay low-spec, so it’s just a 256×256 diffuse, no spec or normal (190 polys, by the way). I might add some more dirt/grunge as well, but I’m not sure if that’d be over-doing it. :P
Hooray first post. I’m not very good with words, so here’s some art! :D
Just something I whipped up yesterday as a birthday present for my teacher/mentor/inspiration, Mars Ashton. It was fun trying to adapt myself to his style. I usually have no problem going lineless with my vectors, but it always impresses me how much detail he’s able to convey. I admit it took me quite a bit longer than I thought, but I think I’m better for the experience.
I made him into a bird-warrior-type-guy ’cause he seems to love drawing sarcastic birds. Though that’s more of a running joke than fact, considering there’s maybe one or two total in his portfolio. :P Still, it was fun.
